Honestly, I don't think any consoles should be the dominant of its generation. I think all game consoles and handhelds are equally good. The Xbox 360 and One have a very entertaining library of Kinect games, which I love. The PS3 Eye Toy camera and PlayStation Move make an awesome combination, along with the PS4's useful touchpad. The Wii's motion controls make a fun, active experience for the whole family, and people can play their Wii U games while someone else plays another game console or watch TV. The DS and 3DS were quite the unique innovation with their touchscreens, allowing people to play simulations or educational games, and the glasses free 3D is just mind-blowing.
