He is currently in the final year of a four-year, $13.3 million contract and was slated to become an unrestricted free-agent on July 1. The extension carries an average annual value of $5.5 million. It includes a full no-movement clause in the first three years of the deal with a modified no-trade clause in the final three. Utilizing a feature of the NHLs new collective bargaining agreement, Girardis no-movement clause kicks in immediately, despite the extension not taking effect until 2014-15. Girardi originally went undrafted and has played his entire eight-year NHL career with the Rangers. In 548 career games, he has scored 35 goals and 136 assists. The Welland, Ont.-native was one of two high-profile players the Rangers were attempting to get extended before the Mar. 5 trade deadline, leaving captain Ryan Callahan unsigned for next season.
