WASHINGTON -- A rare offensive outburst by the Orlando Magic overcame the biggest night of John Walls career.Elfrid Payton scored 22 of his career-high 25 points in the first half and the Magic beat the Washington Wizards 124-116 on Tuesday despite Walls 52-point performance. The Magic were averaging 93.2 points and scored over 100 points in just five of their first 21 games but shot 52 percent en route to a third straight victory. Were growing on that end of the floor, Magic coach Frank Vogel said. We got several great contributions, starting with Elfrid Payton coming off the bench having the game of his life. He was terrific tonight.Wall had the highest-scoring game of his career and kept Washington in it with 33 points in the second half as the Wizards cut the lead below 10 in the fourth quarter. The guard made 18 of 31 from the field and added eight assists.I mean, (in the) third quarter I started to make shots, and I was trying to be more aggressive at times, Wall said. I was able to be aggressive and get into the paint and make some easy shots.Payton played like Wall in the first half as he went 8 for 8 from the field and 3 for 3 from the line, nearly matching his previous season best of 23 points in the first two quarters alone. Payton finished 9 for 12 and handed out nine assists. They were playing off a little bit, so they gave me a couple of open looks, Payton said. They just looked like they were staying home so just trying to be a little bit more aggressive.Orlandos 124 points were a season high.Jeff Green scored 13 of his 20 in the first half for Orlando. Green went to Georgetown and played his college basketball at the Verizon Center, and he made a key 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter that stopped a Washington rally.(The offense) was clicking, Green said. We were making shots, making the extra pass, trusting each other, and we got it done. The Magic scored the games first seven points and the lead went back and forth until they took command in the second quarter.Orlando (10-12) slowly pulled away, making 13 of its first 18 shots in the second quarter to take a 62-48 lead with just under 3 minutes left. The Magic scored 40 points in the period en route to a 65-52 halftime edge.Seven Orlando players scored in double figures. Bismack Biyombo contributed a season-high 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.Only three Wizards scored in double figures.TIP-INSMagic: The Magic are 5-1 when scoring 100 points. ... Vogel called off practice Monday, and his team took a trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture.Wizards: Ian Mahinmi remains out with a sore knee -- the non-surgically repaired one is the problem now. Coach Scott Brooks said the center had an MRI last week. ... Brooks also said Sheldon McClellan has been assigned to Delaware of the D-League and will play three or four games there.A LITTLE HELP FROM THEIR FRIENDSThe Orlando bench gave the starters a lift by scoring 73 points. Payton and Green led the way while Jodie Meeks added 18, and Nikola Vucevic had 10. The four combined to make 24 of 37 shots (67 percent) from the field.NO DEFENSEThe 124 points were the most Washington has allowed in a home game this season, and the second-highest amount the Wizards have allowed in any game.UP NEXTMagic: On Wednesday, the Magic will host the Celtics. Bostons been getting some great shooting in recent games from Jonas Jerebko.Wizards: The Nuggets come to town on Thursday for their first meeting of the season. FRISCO, Texas -- While Mark Sanchez has a new offense to learn in Dallas, the veteran quarterback sees another important element of his role in his first week as the backup with Dak Prescott preparing for the opener against the New York Giants. After all, Sanchez was a rookie starter once, too.You dont want to bombard the guy, especially as a rookie, Sanchez said after his first practice with the Cowboys on Monday. And I know from experience thats really important. You dont need a million people telling you how to throw a slant route. You just need to go with what you know, be as comfortable as you can, and Im here to help.Sanchez signed with Dallas on Sunday, a day after he was released in Denver when he lost a battle for the starting job to second-year player Trevor Siemian. He could end up as the No. 3 quarterback when Tony Romo returns from a broken bone in his back. Its still not known when Romo will be ready. The Cowboys have yet to put him on injured reserve, which would force him to miss the first seven games before he could be eligible for a return. Coach Jason Garrett said the team was taking at least a couple of more days to decide. If Romo stays on the active roster, that probably means the Cowboys think he can be back by mid-October. Otherwise, he would have to wait until Nov. 6 if Dallas uses its option to return one player from IR on Romo.As for how it all relates to Sanchez, most of the possibilities are premature for a guy who has barely opened the playbook in Dallas.Hes worked very hard in the last 24-36 hours trying to get comfortable with what were doing, coach Jason Garrett said. Hell pick it up. Hes seen a lot of different offenses in his life. Hes got to learn quickly, and thats where his focus is.Sanchez, the fifth overall pick in 2009 by the New York Jets, played in AFC championship games his first two years in the NFL. He wasnt as good the next two years, though, and was cut after missing the 2013 season with a shoulder injury.ddddddddddddFollowing two seasons in Philadelphia, the Broncos acquired Sanchez after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler went to Houston in free agency. That didnt work out, so now hes backing up a fourth-rounder in Prescott, who took over at No. 2 when Kellen Moore broke an ankle in training camp. and became the starter when Romo got hurt.Maybe things didnt go perfectly as planned, but Im here for a reason, said Sanchez, who has 72 starts and 37 wins in 75 career games. You owe it to the guys around you to keep working hard whether thats scout team or whatever it means. If I get to see the field, great. If not, great. The Cowboys made room for Sanchez by waiving second-year player Jameill Showers, who spent most of last season on the practice squad and signed to return there again on Monday.Even with Showers return, Sanchez will have by far the most experience among the healthy quarterbacks.Hes started a lot of games, Garrett said. He was a very successful college quarterback. We played against him in our division, so weve seen him up close. Hes an experienced guy who has a lot of ability. We thought it was a good opportunity to add to the depth of our quarterback position. And with a guy who can relate to the rookie getting ready for his first start.Game notes DE Charles Tapper said doctors discovered a broken bone when he had trouble with his back in training camp. Hes been out since early in camp. The fourth-round pick said he expects to miss the opener but could be ready by the second or third game. ... Garrett said LB Sean Lee was expected to practice after missing time recently with knee soreness.---Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuyler Youth NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL Gear Wholesale Jerseys China Wholesale NFL Gear Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Store Cheap Jerseys 2019 ' ' '
