In “leave your name at the border" by Manuel Munoz states that he is a Mexican American living in a small California town. He illustrates the impediments faced by people who try to assimilate with a different culture through the lens of the very factual form of identity. As he grew up, he and his peers spoke English at school and Spanish at home.
