India in early trouble chasing 398

India's lightning start to its pursuit of Australia's first innings total of 398 has been stemmed by the loss of two early wickets on day two of the third Test in Nagpur.

India was 2 for 35 at lunch with batting aces Rahul Dravid on 2 and Sachin Tendulkar on 1. Virender https://www.goldengooseshoesit.com/ Sehwag was the first man out for 22 and he was followed a short time later by fellow opener Akash Chopra who made 9.

Glenn McGrath, playing his 100th Test, had Sehwag caught behind after the cavalier opener had plundered 22 from just 20 balls, including 16 runs thumped off Jason Gillespie's first over of the innings.

The dismissal was wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist's 250th in Tests and it was a fine catch, the keeper taking it AFL-style high to his right.

Jason Gillespie then chimed in, having Chopra caught low down at first slip by Shane Warne. It was sweet success for the South Australian after he was belted all over the place by Sehwag in his first over of the innings.

The Indian innings began with a maiden bowled by McGrath to Chopra, the veteran pace bowler probing in customary fashion just outside the off stump.

But then Sehwag took on Gillespie, belting him for four boundaries in his first over - two through the covers, one over gully and another out to midwicket.

That prompted a lengthy conversation between stand-in skipper Gilchrist and the South Australian paceman, ending with Gillespie giving his captain the thumbs-up.

Michael Clarke just missed out on his second Test century, last man out for 91 as India fought back to take Australia's last three wickets for just 35 runs.

Indian pacemen Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar did the damage. Zaheer removed Gillespie leg before wicket for 9 and his new ball partner had Michael Kasprowicz caught behind for a duck.

Clarke was then caught by Parthiv Patel to give Zaheer his fourth wicket of the innings.

The Indians took the second new ball in the first over and Zaheer was immediately able to get the ball to jump off a length, taking Clarke on the gloves before deflecting into his midrift.

In the next over he produced a delivery which straightened and had Gillespie trapped plumb in front.

Kasprowicz scored 92 - his highest first-class score - the last time he batted at Nagpur during a tour match in 1998.

But this time he lasted just three balls before nicking an Agarkar outswinger to wicketkeeper Patel. The keeper has been in poor form during the series, but had no problems gloving the catch.

McGrath, a noted bunny with the bat, began his innings in fine form, pulling a ball to the boundary before cover driving for three. He moved into double figures with another pull shot, finding the boundary at fine leg.

But alas, his promising knock was nipped in the bud when Zaheer produced a rising ball outside the off stump which Clarke only managed to edge to Patel.

Damien Martyn was the hero for Australia Golden Goose yesterday, making 114.

On the negative side of the ledger, Darren Lehmann tore his hamstring during his innings of 70 and may not be able to bat again in the match.

The Australians are considering sending him home for treatment and have called Brad Hodge back into the squad as cover.

Hodge and Shane Watson were on their way back to Australia from Nagpur yesterday when the call went out to Hodge to return.
