SYDNEY， June 16 (Xinhua) -- Two women have been left with serious facial injuries following a dingo attack that occurred at an animal park south of Perth， Newscorp reported on Thursday.


Twenty-three-year-old Emma Mitchell-Collett was attacked when she went to the aid of a 21-year-old colleague who was inside a dingo enclosure.


"He attacked her， I managed to get her out of the enclosure，" Mitchell-Collett told Nine News.


She said the dingo also attacked her.


"Something happened， we don't know what triggered him. There's still a lot we don't know about dingo behaviours，" Mitchell-Collett added.


It was reported the pair were at the enclosure to take the dingo for a walk.


The women however do not want the dingo to be put down.


"Ultimately he is a wild animal at heart. You can put them in captivity all you want but they're wild at heart. You can't blame him for acting on natural instincts，" Mitchell-Collett said.


"There's no reason myself and the volunteer want him destroyed， it's just something that happened， he's not a bad animal. We're not going to take it out on him."


Both were taken to hospital and treated for puncture wounds.


The zoo has launched an investigation into the matter and a decision about the dingo's future will be made in the coming days.
